A message from the co-chairs of the 2023 Fall Annual Meeting and Education Conference, Margaret Parker-Yavuz (Akin Gump) and Thomas Pasuit (Kuvare):
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Education Committee, we invite you to join us at the ACIC’s 2023 Fall Investment Forum to be held at the Westin Grand Central in New York City on October 19th and 20th. This event will explore a variety of emerging topics of interest to institutional investors, and feature a distinguished list of moderators and panelists that includes both external and internal specialists and practitioners. The program will begin with a market update of U.S. domestic and cross-border private placement markets, and an economic update on macroeconomic developments and trends impacting the debt markets more broadly. We will continue with a discussion on the use of artificial intelligence in the legal profession and related ethical, cybersecurity and other issues, an examination of the opportunities and challenges for lenders that have come with the increasing presence of private equity funds in the credit markets, a regulatory update focusing on NAIC and Investment Adviser Act developments impacting insurance companies and managers, a review of the 2023 banking crisis, and a discussion of real estate investment structures and issues in the current economic environment. Our first day will conclude with a discussion of new developments and trends in energy investment and regulation in the US and abroad in the wake of the Inflation Reduction Act. Our Friday session will feature a discussion of antitrust laws and issues relating to new financings and amendments, an interesting discussion of the increasing number of insurance companies that are owned by private equity and related issues, and an exploration of issues relating to workouts of deeply distressed investments, with a focus on what happens when noteholders end up holding equity.
