It’s hard to believe that summer is here and 2017 is now into the second half of the year. From what I hear it has been a strong 2017 for members of the ACIC. We are all looking forward to a strong second half of the year.
Looking back at the first half of 2017 we have to acknowledge the great success of our Spring Forum in Chicago. The attendance for the Spring Forum was the highest in recent years and, based on feedback received, the program chaired by Mary Jo Quinn (Allstate) and Melody Cross (Schiff Hardin), was extremely well received. On behalf of the College I want to thank Mary Jo and Melody for their professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm in planning the Spring Forum, it is greatly appreciated and was evident in the fantastic program. Also, thanks to all moderators and panelists for their time, effort and wisdom, it is what the College is all about.
The officers and trustees of the College along with the members of the various ACIC committees continue to work hard to bring the Fellows of the College more support in the advancement in their careers. One of those efforts is the strong one-hour CLE programs being organized by our Education Committee (co-chaired by Rich Wasserman (Day Pitney), Ann King (Sun Life) and James Roberts (AIG). These programs are well attended and very informative on current topics of interest. So far in 2017 we have had the June CLE program, Calculating Swap Breakage Amounts, presented by Armando Gamboa (Prudential) and Ozzie Bayazitoglu (AIG), for which there were over 90 registered participants. Armando and Ozzie thanks for a great program. Look out for news of future programs, the Education Committee is planning for 2 additional programs in 2017.
As indicated in my February letter to the College our Website and Social Media Committee (Co-Chaired by Mike Fierro (Prudential) and Nicole Rives (Sullivan & Worcester) continues to work to improve our website to improve the administrative functionality of the site and to explore opportunities for additional uses and content. If you have ideas or want to get involved please reach out to Mike or Nicole.
Finally I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the Fellows, and there are many, who volunteer their time to participate in the various College Committees. That participation is key to the successful operation of the College. A special thanks to the Communication Committee (co-chaired by Luke Weedon (Baker Botts) and Stefanie Greer (Prudential)) and the current co-editors of the ACIC Private Notes Josephine Vashi (AIG) and Danielle Maksimow (Norton Rose) for their hard work and dedication in keeping the College informed through the publication of the ACIC Private Notes.
Please reach out to a committee to get involved.
Our 2017 Annual Meeting and Education Conference “Broadway Nights” will be co-chaired by Deborah Hayes (Lincoln Financial) and Daniel Favero (Mayer Brown) and will be an entertaining and informative program. The Annual Meeting will be held at the Grand Hyatt New York (Grand Central Station) October 19th and 20th. Keep an eye out for the save-the-date and hotel reservation information that should be coming your way in the very near future.
Hope to see you at the Grand Hyatt. Tom
