Sumbul Ali is a legal executive with a passion for excellence. Sumbul leads a team responsible for providing strategic and proactive solutions and leadership on legal matters across the rapidly expanding SLC Management investment advisory platform (including BentallGreenOak, Crescent Capital, InfraRed Capital Partners, Advisors Asset Management and SLC Fixed Income).
Sumbul joined Sun Life in 2016 as Assistant Vice-President & Senior Counsel, Asset Management and Investments. In 2019, she became Assistant Vice-President & Managing Counsel, SLC Management. In August 2021 she was promoted to Vice-President & Associate General Counsel, Asset Management & Investments – Acting and later promoted in April 2022 to Head of Legal / Vice-President & Associate General Counsel, SLC Management.
Prior to joining SLC Management, Sumbul was an Associate in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott LLP, a major Canadian law firm, and the London office of Linklaters LLP, a major international law firm, where her practice focused on banking, financial services and corporate law.
Sumbul holds a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and a Bachelor of Commerce, with a specialist in finance and major in economics, from the University of Toronto (Trinity College).
King & Spalding
Jeff Dutson is a partner in King & Spalding’s Leveraged Finance and Restructuring group. Jeff represents banks and other investors in connection with their most complex financings, restructurings, and bankruptcy matters. Jeff also frequently represents corporate debtors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases throughout the country as well as buyers and sellers in distressed M&A transactions. Jeff’s practice spans a wide variety of industries, including the restaurant, real estate, healthcare, energy, transportation, manufacturing, and aviation industries.
Jeff was recently recognized by the American Bankruptcy Institute as part of its 40 Under 40 list of emerging leaders in the insolvency industry. He has also been recognized for his work in Bankruptcy and Restructuring by Chambers USA 2020, and he was selected as a “Rising Star” for Financial Restructuring in IFLR 1000’s Financial & Corporate Guide. He is a fellow of the American College of Investment Counsel. Jeff currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Southeastern ABI Workshop.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff is a graduate of the University of Chicago (where he earned his law degree, with honors) and the University of Georgia (where he earned his bachelor’s degree, with honors). Prior to joining the firm, Jeff served as a law clerk for the Honorable E. Grady Jolly of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
